Takana Miyamoto Trio

piano

June 8

The Society has anticipated Takana’s return since her inspired performance with the Marcus Printup Quartet in 2006. Her compositions are visual and emotional, coming from dedicated film music study. Spellbinding impressionistic solos take audience members on journeys that always resolve to create a coherent whole, thus appealing to persons with all ranges of experience with jazz.  Takana describes her sound as "without boundary," "accepting," "improvisational" and "healing." As the Society’s audience members learned in 2006, an evening with Takana Miyamoto will be an unforgettable experience.

Takana has earned "Rising Star" recognition from the International Jazz Society. Women Looking Ahead selected her as one of "Georgia's Most Powerful and Influential Women" as a composer, featuring her in their magazine as "an extraordinary talent".

Since 1998, Takana has recorded and toured with five-time Grammy nominated vocalist, Nnenna Freelon. Takana was the pianist, arranger and the musical director for Freelon's two-time Grammy nominated "Soulcall" and "Live at the Kennedy Center" albums. In 2003, Takana joined the risk-taking vocalist Rene Marie's group and is featured on Marie's recordings. As a versatile musician, Takana continues to record/perform with the top artists such as two-time Grammy nominee Russell Gunn.
